Monday marked the beginning of the world-famous Pushkar fair. The sand dunes of the town were filled with tourists from across the country and abroad, camels, horses, and more. It is for the first time that the nine-day international fair started with the worship of Pushkar Sarovar. The event also observed flag hoisting ceremony along with multiple cultural events including group dance by school students and a ‘Chak De’ Rajasthan football match. On the first day, a live music concert of Neeraj Arya’s Kabir Cafe was also organised at 7 pm in the fairground.
Here is a schedule for the other days:
Day 2 (Nov 5):
The day began with the tradition Langri tang (played with one leg) played at the Mela ground at 10 in the morning followed by Satoliya (seven stones) match between Indian and foreigners. Around 11 am, there will be a Camel Decoration contest after which there will be a Camel Dance contest. Voice of Pushkar (preliminary round) will be held at 7 pm, and finale of the same will be at 9 pm. There will also be a live Kathak performance by Devendra Sharma at 8:30 pm.
Day 3 (Nov 6):
The day will begin with a Kabaddi match between Indians and foreigners at 10:30 am, Mela ground. At 11:30 am Horse dance competition will be held at Mela Ground followed by Inter Panchayat Samiti Rural Sports at 1:30. The day will be concluded with the performance by Hari Bhatt on sitar, Hemant Devda, Tagaram on algoza and dance by Anu Solanki.
Day 4 (Nov 7):
Witness the Lagaan style cricket match at 8 am, Mela Ground followed by Inter Panchayat Samiti Rural Sports at 10:00. Ghoomar dance will be performed at 3 in the afternoon by SHG Women at Mela Ground which will be followed by a talk show featuring Ruma Devi and Payal Jangid. Maha Aarti will be performed at Pushkar Sarovar Ghat in the evening around 5 pm. A play on Mahatma Gandhi will be staged at Mela Ground by Mudra Theatre at 7 pm followed by performances by SHG Group, Khadi Heritage fashion show by Ruma Devi and Jazz Nagada by Nathulal Solanki
Day 5 (Nov 8):
The day will begin at 8:30 in the morning with spiritual walk from Gurudwara to Mela Ground. Interesting Moustache competition will be held at 10:30, which will be followed by Turban Tilak contest at Mela Ground. At 1 pm there will be Inter Panchayat Samiti Rural Sports and at 5 pm there will be the inauguration of Gir and Cross breed cattle exhibition. Next will be the performance of Dinesh Parashar and Raghav Parashar Saraswati Music School, and Coke Studio fame, Mame Khan live concert. The day will be concluded with the Classical Dance Festival at the Old Rangji Temple at 7:30.
Day 6 (Nov 9):
The finale of Inter Panchayat Samiti Rural Sports will be played at the Mela Ground at 10:00 in the morning followed by Matka Race (females only) and Musical chairs (females only) at Mela Ground. In the evening at 6:30, Akriti Chouhan & Group will present a Garba Dance followed by live performance by Ravi Panwar- Symphony Orchestra.
Day 7 (Nov 10):
Champion Cattle competition will be held at the cattle exhibition ground at 3 pm. At 6:30 pm Minakshi Sharma will perform Chari Traditional dance. Famous Kalbeliya dancer, Gulabo Sapera will perform at 7:30 pm at the Mela Ground followed by cultural performances by WZCC.
Day 8 (Nov 11):
The second last day will see a performance by Padam Charan Dehuri, Akshita Bhatt and Minakshi Sharma at 6:30 in the evening. However, the highlight of the day will the live concert of Kailash Kher & his band, Kailasa, 7 pm at Mela Ground.
Day 9 (Nov 12):
The concluding day of the fair will begin with Mega Cultural event and Closing ceremony at 9:30 am to be held at Mela Ground. Dev Diwali Maha Aarti at Varah Ghat at 6:00 pm.
Every day attractions:
- Hot air balloon: 6:30 am and 4:30 pm (ticketed)
- Shilpgram handicraft fair: 11:00 am to 8:00 pm
- Adventure activities: Every day at 10:30 except day 6 and 9 (ticketed)
- Maha Aarti: 6 pm at Sarovar Ghats (starting from day 5 to 9)
